Shaping our future together

Chatswood is growing and changing. Chatswood 2060 is our opportunity to plan for that growth and help create a more liveable, inclusive, sustainable, culturally vibrant and economically strong city for generations to come.

Following our launch on 21 October 2026, we're starting engagement to develop the plan, along with our whole community. This is the first of many opportunities to get involved. A draft master plan will be released next year, providing another important opportunity to have your say before Council adopts the final vision and actions.

Chatswood 2060 is a long-term vision and master plan that will guide the city's growth, liveability and identity to 2060 and beyond.

It will consider how new homes, jobs and investment can be supported by the infrastructure, transport, open spaces and community facilities people need, while strengthening Chatswood’s role as a major centre within Sydney’s North Shore.

The master plan will bring together research, technical studies and input from government, industry, local organisations and the community to help guide future planning and investment.

Above all, Chatswood 2060 is about creating a city that continues to be a great place to live, work, visit and experience. Your ideas and perspectives will be an important part of shaping what comes next.

Chatswood is already a major employment, retail and transport hub, and has played an important role in the growth and success of Willoughby.

It has also become the cultural heart of the North Shore, with a strong mix of retail, dining, arts and cultural experiences that attract people from across Sydney and beyond.

Building on these strengths, Chatswood continues to grow rapidly. Significant new development is already underway, supported by major investment in infrastructure and transport, including Sydney Metro.

As Sydney grows, Chatswood will play an increasingly important role in providing new homes close to jobs, services, open space and public transport.

Planning now gives us the opportunity to guide that growth well. The Chatswood 2060 Master Plan will help make the most of future investment, support new homes, jobs and infrastructure, and strengthen Chatswood as a vibrant place to live, work and visit.

Chatswood 2060 will explore how future growth can support a more liveable, connected, sustainable and economically strong city.

It will take a long-term view of the opportunities ahead and create a clear roadmap for how Chatswood can continue to evolve.

The master plan will explore how we can:

  • deliver new homes and greater housing choice
  • attract new jobs, businesses and investment
  • strengthen Chatswood’s arts, culture and night-time economy
  • create more things to see, do and experience
  • improve public transport, walking and cycling connections
  • deliver more open space, trees, streets and welcoming public places
  • plan for future community, cultural, education and recreation facilities
  • make sure infrastructure and services keep pace with growth
  • create a healthier, more sustainable and resilient urban environment
  • celebrate Chatswood’s cultural diversity and strengthen its unique identity.
