Update

The stakeholder and community feedback received by Council has been considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the draft detailed design plans. The final detailed design plans were considered by the Traffic Committee at its meeting on 17 April 2019 in item 4.2 Mowbray Road to Victoria Avenue, Chatswood - Bicycle Route Infrastructure and Traffic Facilities. Council considered the Traffic Committee minutes at its meeting on 27 May 2019 and adopted the Traffic Committee’s recommendation which was to approve the detailed design for bicycle infrastructure including line marking, new regulatory signage, bicycle logos and direction signage on Devonshire Street, Johnson Street, Claude Street and Spring Street including a short section of shared path on Claude / Spring Streets as outlined in The detailed design for Mowbray Road to Victoria Avenue, Chatswood is provided in Cycling Plan Sheets 1-6.

Background

Council wants to know what you think about draft detailed plans to improve an existing bicycle route between Mowbray Road and Victoria Avenue, Chatswood before Sunday 7 April 2019.

The proposed upgrades include civil works and upgrades to line markings, bicycle logos and signage. This project is identified as a community priority in the:

This also aligns with the NSW Government’s aim of making bike riding safe, convenient and enjoyable.

The concept plans include the following proposed changes to the existing environment:

  • Upgrading current bicycle treatment (including bicycle logos, line marking and wayfinding) along Johnson Street and Devonshire Street;
  • A new kerb ramp at Spring Street near Albert Avenue;
  • A new shared path along Spring Street near the Westfield Carpark;
  • New line marking and bicycle logos on Spring Street and Claude Street; and
  • New directional signage at Claude Street and Johnson Street.

No street parking will be lost as a result of the improvement works.

What happens next?

All comments will be taken into consideration and will contribute to finalising the detailed plans for implementation.

When are the works planned for?

The works are planned for Mid 2019, depending on the outcome of the current consultation process and final approval.
