What's happening

A new cycleway is being planned which will create a continuous active transport corridor connecting Chatswood, Artarmon and St Leonards. It will improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for people walking and riding, while delivering significant streetscape improvements that support local centres, businesses and the broader community. Beyond improving walking and cycling, the project will create greener, more attractive streets and increase tree canopy.

The proposed route runs along Hampden Road, Artarmon and Herbert Street, St Leonards.

The project, proudly funded through the Transport for NSW Get NSW Active program will include:

  • 2.4 kilometres of dedicated, two-way bicycle lane separated from traffic and footpaths
  • 14 new pedestrian and bicycle crossings with upgraded lighting
  • new traffic calming measures with a new roundabout and raised intersections with continuous footpaths
  • streetscape improvements at Artarmon and St Leonards local centres, with new pocket parks, wider footpaths and feature paving
  • a new park with new street furniture and shade structures
  • extensive landscaping with new street trees, native planting and rain gardens.
