We are strongly in favour naming the pathway McCurrich Cut. Martin was an outstanding member of the Northbridge community - Willoughby Councillor, leading participant in Northbridge Sailing Club, Amateur Swimming Club, Golf Club, Rotary Club, Liberal Party, and more. Many other laneways and paths are named in our suburb after Northbridge identities who contributed to our community over many years and they were not all councillors. That was but one of the ways Martin served the community. Personally I like the term 'McCurrich's Cut' as it cuts into the hill, and is a shortcut to Dalmeny!

I don't agree with the proposal to name the pathway between Dalmeny Road and Minimbah Road, Northbridge 'McCurrich Cut' after the late Martin McCurrich. The pathway is within the unmade part of Dalmeny Road. Historical aerial photographs, maps and street directories amply demonstrate this. Accordingly, the pathway is already part of a named location. No disrespect is intended to the late Martin McCurrich at all, but where does the naming of things after individual councillors reach its logical end? Many fine councillors have served Willoughby Council including on behalf of Northbridge; they need nothing named after them in order to be well-remembered. If there is an appetite for signage, the pathway might be called 'Dalmeny Cut' or similar, which would help explain to the uninitiated why Dalmeny Road suddenly morphs into Minnamurra Road at the top of the pathway.

file:///C:/Users/figtree/Downloads/17.2%20Naming%20of%20Pathway%20in%20Northbridge%20after%20Martin%20McCurrich.pdfThis document has an explanatory note as to the reasoning behind using the word "Cut". The McCurrich's always referred to it as "the cut" and perhaps with the naming of it, the wider community will refer to it that way too. I like the alliteration of the "cu" sound on both words. Regardless, I would like to thank the community for proposing this tribute and for all the kind words in recognition of my late father. Francesca Gibbs (McCurrich)

Nice to see all the positive comments below and support for a very special person who did so much for the community. For those who are unaware, the pathway comes out at the McCurrich home of some 50 years. As Martin's friend and immediate neighbor for 40 of those years (MC-ing his 70th birthday bash at, where else but Northbridge Golf Club) I strongly commend calling this McCurrich Cut. Granted, "Cut" doesn't slide of the tongue, but then neither does "McCurrich". McCurrich Cut captures perfectly the essence of a great man with boundless energy, spirit and humor!

    Just call it Martin's Way.

Suggest the name should be "McCurrich Path". The "Cut" doesn't slide off the tongue and name suggests a barrier rather than pathway.

Tend to agree with rational but suggest the name should be "McCurrich Path". The "Cut" doesn't slide off the tongue and name suggests a barrier rather than pathway. There are not many unnamed locations in Northbridge so we do need to be very particular with their naming.
