Consultation has now closed. We would like to thank those who provided their time in reviewing the Policy. Our next step is to submit the Policy to Council for formal endorsement.
The draft policy updates the previous Public Art Policy, to reflect and support present day thinking in the integration and delivery of public art. It will also assist Council to handle issues relating to public art in the most efficient and effective way and apply consistency, fairness and integrity in its decision-making process
This document responds to the following:
The contribution and delivery of public art by development activity;
The custodianship and management of public art as a council asset;
The process to be undertaken in the selection and engagement of artists and public art acquisition and delivery; and
The sources of funding for public art.
The Draft Public Art Policy integrates with Council's Asset Custodianship Policy, as well as addressing a specific requirement of the Chatswood CBD Planning and Urban Design Strategy to 2036 in the delivery of public art.
Revision of policies keeps them current and incorporates best practice with the aim of meeting the outcomes and community priorities in our strategic plan.
The draft policy is intended to highlight how public art can be trans-formative when it is done well, particularly when it becomes an integrated element of the public domain. The best public art is developed alongside the primary development project from the early stages. In this way it can play a very important role in delivering design excellence. This policy reflects best practice thinking in the delivery and management of public art in the public domain.
Please take a few minutes to review the Draft Public Art Policy in the 'Supporting Document' section of this page.
Written submissions should be sent to email@willoughby.nsw.gov.au or posted to PO Box 57, Chatswood NSW 2057 by 10 June 2020.
