Public signage
The placement of a banner or sign at the site of tree vandalism is becoming more common as it is an effective way to raise the profile of the issue and act as a deterrent for the future. Given the often covert nature of tree vandalism, can you suggest an alternative approach?

Willa over 9 years agoCouncil could undertake an audit of the dollar value of trees within its resposnibility and ensue the community is aware of both the environmnetal and the economic impact to the community of tree vandalism. Production and distribution of literature that provides an explanantion and examples of tree vandalism, economic and environmental impacts, as well as the importance of reporting and ways to report instances to Council will assist. The large signs are potentially a great deterent!Share

Lynn over 9 years agoWhere trees are repeatedly vandalised perhaps a camera could be installed to record the vandal. LynnHide reply (1) Share

Green Thumb over 9 years agoI guess it might have to come to this but its a bit of a big brother approach and might just encourage vandals to finish the job in one visit.Share

Green Thumb over 9 years agoI've heard of Councils using shipping containers to block the view. I think it is good to replace the tree with something much uglier.Share
