Consultation has concluded

Council invites Naremburn residents to provide feedback up until 31 January 2020 on parking restrictions being implemented late June 2019.

Council has listened to feedback from the Naremburn community about the expansion of the residential parking scheme. We found that only residents in four of the proposed 17 streets supported the proposal.

The new residential parking and timed 2P/ 4P parking restrictions implemented are located near the North Shore railway line, namely Grandview Street, Waters Road, Park Road, and Bongalong Street. See the map for details.

Council has listened to feedback from the Naremburn community about the expansion of the residential parking scheme. We found that only residents in four of the proposed 17 streets supported the proposal.

The new residential parking and timed 2P/ 4P parking restrictions implemented are located near the North Shore railway line, namely Grandview Street, Waters Road, Park Road, and Bongalong Street. See the map for details.

Council recognises that imposing parking restrictions in some areas can have a flow-on affect in other areas. As such, Council will not introduce any new parking restrictions without residents’ support. Council will monitor the performance of parking demand and continue to receive online feedback.

Thank you to the 193 residents who submitted feedback earlier this year.

This second phase of consultation aims to:

  • help Council transport engineers understand if and how the parking scheme in the four streets impact parking in the area; and
  • if resident sentiment changes in the other 13 streets following the scheme being introduced in only four streets.

This is a major change in on-street parking so a number of measures will be implemented to keep the community informed such as variable message signage in the precinct and promotion through various communication channels.

Council will continue to monitor the entire Naremburn precinct to understand the impact of the new restrictions, particularly in those streets adjacent to, but not part of, the new parking scheme.

Background

With the increase of street parking demand in the Willoughby Local Government area, Council has released a Street Parking Strategy to better manage the demand and supply of on-street parking spaces.

The strategy provides a framework to manage parking equitably and evidence based. Parking restrictions to be introduced or adjusted will be based on criteria including land use type and proximity to major parking generators such as employment centres and transport interchanges.

Resident and visitor access to parking is proposed to be managed through the introduction of time restrictions and resident parking to help manage the limited available street parking capacity in an area. The guiding principles for the proposed street parking restrictions are:

  • provide equitable street parking spaces for residents and their visitors (families, guests, carers, trade people); and
  • support local businesses in the area that generate jobs and contribute to the local economy in the area.
